Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the Sora mobile application (“Sora”, “we”, “us”) handles information. Sora is an offline-first anime catalog. It does not require an account and is not designed to collect personal profiles for advertising or analytics.

1. Who we are

Sora is developed as an independent Android app. For privacy questions, contact ruzalkunwar@gmail.com.

2. Summary

• No user accounts or sign-in
• No ads, no analytics SDKs, and no developer-operated tracking
• Library statuses, personal ratings, theme preference, and caches are stored on your device
• Optional network requests load sharper posters, trailers, and related metadata
• Optional on-device reminders suggest anime locally — nothing is sent to a Sora server
• Sharing uses the Android share sheet only when you choose a destination app
• Clearing app data or uninstalling Sora removes local app data

3. Information stored on your device

Sora stores the following locally on your device:

• Catalog data — a bundled anime catalog seeded into a local SQLite database so browsing works offline
• Library — anime IDs you track, with optional watch status (watching, plan to watch, interested, completed, on hold, dropped) and optional personal ratings (1–10)
• Theme preference — light or dark mode selection
• Reminder preference — whether local anime reminders are enabled, and how often they should fire
• Caches — optional cover URLs and media metadata to reduce repeated network requests
• Image cache — posters temporarily cached by the device for faster display

This information stays on the device. We do not operate a Sora backend that receives your library, ratings, theme, or reminder settings.

4. Network use and third parties

Sora requests the Internet permission for optional online features. When you are online, the app may contact third-party services to improve content quality:

• AniList — higher-resolution cover art and related media metadata
• Jikan / MyAnimeList-related APIs — fallback media details when needed
• Image CDNs — poster and thumbnail images
• YouTube and other external sites — opened in an external app or browser when you tap a trailer or link
• Apps you choose when sharing — if you share a title or list, the Android share sheet sends the content you selected to the destination you pick (for example Messages or social apps). Sora does not upload shares to a Sora server

Those providers may process standard request data such as IP address, user agent, and requested resource identifiers under their own privacy policies. Sora does not sell this information and does not use it to build advertising profiles.

5. Permissions

Sora uses:

• Internet — optional online covers, trailers, and related metadata
• Notifications (Android 13+) — only if you enable anime reminders. Reminders are scheduled on the device and do not use a push server
• Boot completed — so previously scheduled local reminders can be restored after a reboot

Sora does not request camera, contacts, location, microphone, phone, SMS, or files/media permissions. It does not use exact alarms.

6. Local reminders

Anime reminders are optional and off by default. When enabled, Sora schedules a small rolling set of local notifications on your device, usually suggesting a title from your library or the catalog. No reminder content is uploaded to a Sora backend. You can disable reminders or clear local data at any time.

7. Children

Sora is a general-audience anime catalog and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Data retention and deletion

Because Sora has no accounts, there is no cloud profile to delete on our servers. You can remove local data at any time by:

• using Clear local data in the app (removes library entries, ratings, and caches while keeping the bundled catalog), or
• clearing Sora’s storage in Android Settings, or
• uninstalling the app

9. Security

Local data is protected by your device’s normal app sandbox. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but Sora minimizes exposure by keeping personal choices on-device and avoiding accounts.

10. Changes

We may update this policy when the app’s data practices change. The effective date at the top will be revised, and the latest version will remain available at this URL.
